My name is DeLacey A. Yancey. I am a graduate of Michigan State University with a Master of Arts degree in Arts & Cultural Management with a concentration in Museum Studies, Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science Education with a minor in History, also a teaching certification in Health/Physical Education.
Prior to the inception of BlackMVPatents, I have done a wide range of work in both regional/local schools and in the community. In doing so, I have been invited to participate in a series of seminars and workshops central to historical content, technological skill sets, and multi-media simultaneously. In 2016, I was featured in the November Issue of the American Historical Association (AHA) Perspectives Magazine article "Digital History, From Both Sides." In the article, I talk about the usefulness of creating digital pubic history, the skills acquired through web development, and education. In 2017, I became a Smithsonian Affiliate through the "Will to Adorn Project,” and attended the annual conference at the Smithsonian in Washington DC while also having the opportunity of touring the National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). Also Included in my related experiences are several exhibitions that I have curated which involve social identity, expression, liberation and equality.
As an educator, it is vital to make information and materials relevant, engaging, and fun for students and learners so that the learning process can be successful and authentic. In the growing age of technological advancement now occurring in our educational systems, I believe that BlackMVPatents: Art of Innovation can serve as a great resource for students, teachers, administrators, and people all over the world. BlackMVP website is filled with valuable information of African-American inventors who affect our everyday lives, along with games and activities that will help you learn more about their contributions. In conclusion, our goal is to celebrate and to bring awareness and cultural relevancy not only to Black History, but as a vital part of American and World History that would otherwise be unknown and unrecognized.
A Special Thanks to Michigan State University’s Professor David Bailey, MSU History Department Chair Walter Hawthorne, LEADR Lab Director Brandon Locke and the LEADR Lab Team, and Co-Creator Mary Randle-Robinson, without their help and support, BlackMVPatents: Art of Innovation website would not have been possible.
